Alton Youth Symphony Chamber Group |

The Alton Youth Symphony Chamber Group is an ensemble of select AYS musicians who perform as a small group at community events. All members are students of area middle schools or home schools and have been recognized for their talent. The AYS chamber group was started in 2004 when four ambitious AYS musicians decided to put together a string quartet to fill time during the summer. They performed at the Alton Adult Day Care, and a few nursing homes around the Alton area. An organizer from the American Cancer Society Ball in St. Louis heard about the group and invited them to play in the lobby of the City Museum in St. Louis. Following that performance, additional requests were made and the quartet was happy to accomodate. |

When the founding members moved on to high school, the AYS board was inspired to engage a chamber group coach to provide opportunities for the more seasoned young musicians to perform while also giving back to the community that supports AYS. And so, in the spring of 2005, the AYS Chamber Group was formed. Since then, they have performed for Christmas parties, nursing homes, and charity functions of various local organizations. The groups reqertoire includes classical, folk, Americana, and seasonal musical works. |
